One last update

So, it's been two years since the last post. And just in case anyone still reads this, I think I'll sign off for good as I think Facebook and Twitter have taken over the need for a rambling blog. It's been emotional and a bit of craic. But sure all good things have to come to an end... unless some event requires the blog being resurrected!

Twice in the one year...

Ok I know this is technically a continuation of the last post... but sure two posts in a year sounds better!

Right where was I... oh aye... the seniors' ups and downs of 2011... aye so, they stayed up, got a few championship games... so achieved what we wanted at the start of the year.. happy days!

Lookin towards next year... could be tough. With a pile of boys deciding to swap 'Staghan for Sydney, Clady for Melbourne and Glenone for Gold Coast... seems we could be down a few men for 2012! I dunno what the big deal is with these foreign countries, sure you wouldn't get the nice weather you get in Tyanee over there!!

There's been a few rumoured retirements as well for the comin year... some who claim to be only retirin now but from their performances looked to have stopped playin half way through 2011! We'll see what happens come January or February and the wives can't stand the sight of them anymore and kick them out the door til they get rid of the beer belly!!

So.. 2012 could be a tough one... need to get a manager on board first, and then find all able bodied players laying around the parish!

Away from the footy, there were a few wee events during the year, including the night at the dogs in Drumbo... some craic... especially watchin them eejits run around the track!! I thought there was definitely goin to be at least one faller! dunno how they all managed to survive!!

The wee players lounge is receiving its final touches and could be up and runnin and ready before the end of the year... somewhere for those recently retired boys to escape from the wives maybe... we'll have to make sure it's locked during trainin.. can't have everyone lookin up at them and not concentratin on football!!

Anyway... enough bollix for one day... might be back on again in a year's time... dunno... 2 posts in day might do for a couple of years! We'll see if there's any craic to be told!

Just a year since the last post sure!

Not that it was intentional or anythin... but seems like it's been a year and a day since the last time I posted nonsense on here!!

So if anyone is still out there... I'll try and remember how to write a pile of crap that makes no sense....

Here goes...!

So... 2011... a memorable year... maybe!

The year started well, with the Seniors promoted to Division 1 for the first time since 2005, new man in to take us in the form of Gary Coleman, he obviously spotted my great skills from the moment he walked into the place, though Ernie and DL told him he was deluded, so decided to keep me in reserve for the reserves... hardly the place for the club's best ever player.. but sure.. some people dunno real talent when they see it!

After a long preseason of muddy pitches and forest runs, we got off to a flyer in the league, with a win over the Dawson, and draws with Screen, Banagher and Slaughtneil... though at least 2 of those draws could've been wins and saved us some sweating and dicking about at the end of the year!! Could have nabbed a draw with the surs too only for a late penalty save! :(

After a couple of defeats against Ballinderry, Lavey and The Glen, things got back on track with an away win against reigning county champions Coleraine and a 6 point victory over one of our bottom of the table rivals Glen.

With the way the league was workin out, after those wee victories we looked to be heading towards stayin up in Division 1 for 2 consecutive years for the first time in many years, the main aim at the start of the year, with 4 games til go! Not bad...

Then came the championship... a wet night in Slaughtneil saw us win our first Senior Championship match in over 30 years! Happy days!

On an up from that wee result we took on the surs in The Glen. After falling asleep at the start of the match, we gave it a real rattle in the second half, and restored some pride even if we got beat by 8.

With the back door in operation, we played a third senior championship match in a year for possibly the first time in the club's history! Unfortunately, we should have stopped at two, as on a forgettable day in Lavey we never showed up and were over run by a tough Loup team... ending the previously promising campaign in not the best possible way!

Havin been distracted by the championship, we never really got back to the form we showed earlier in the year and failed to win another league game in 2011, despite leavin a few games behind we should have at least got a draw out of!

But thankfully other results went our way and we stayed up... only just... and with dawson and the bridge goin down, we could have nice wee trips to Steelstown and/or Craigbane in 2012... not good!

On a brighter note...with screen goin on to win the league later in the year that obviously means we're equal to them after our draw and ultimately the best team in Derry!!

Not a bad year

Just promotion, reserve double, under 16 championship and u14 7-a-side this year... cant complain!!

Been a while since the last post... our boy has been lazy over the last while... but sure what can you do.

Great win against the Swa in the promotion game. Some comeback in the reserve championship final to finally beat them Desertmartin bollixes... and the 16s just over ran them.

So not a bad year.... and senior footbball to look forward to next year... fun times!! Oh and the U21s are still to finish yet... good win against Loup there during the week... so happy days!

That was just the onfield activity... i dunno if i'll mention the hunt for the hunk... some night! Some boys with sore heads the next day... 'I see pretty girls every where I go' indeed! But Eugene 'Borat bealy' O'Neill put on a good show to claim the title... so good luck to him in the Derry final in January some time... should be even more interesting!!

Then there was the townland 7s... them staghan boys with mars running the thing done the business beatin reigning champs ballymacpeake in the final! Some craic... never seen so many out of shape boys enjoying playing football!

So 2010 over... almost... not bad... roll on 2011...

Time flies

Jaysus a year doesnt take long goin in... but that's how long its been since I started writin this crap... because if i remember right, i started this carry on just as we were gettin ready to go to the All-irelands 7s down in Meath...

And sure arent we ready to go this year again on Saturday... and try and avoid a dodgy ref in the final this time and win the thing... we'll see... could be interesting... all I know there is a big DCs bus going and its been booked out with 'supporters'... I'd be surprised if half them made it by the group stages even if our players do!

Should be a fun old time... but i've been lay up with an auld sore leg, so will have to be one of those faders and stay away this year... sure we done that well last year, i want to give some other teams a chance the year!!!

Been a while...

It's been sometime since the last post... been too busy layin about and trying out that auld facebook carry on.... not all it's cracked up to be hi!

So since that wee run... what all has happened??....

Well... off the field there was an Irish night and a hypnotist... dunno which one boys got hynotised at... some interesting sites about the place, including elvis and a love in... but that was just the irish night!

Then on the field... well just the two championships... the Under 16s powering their way to the win in the final, while the reserves minus the unique talents of Bealy and Dolph decided not to bother playin in the first half, before doing a remarkable turn around in the second half when big Jim came on and ruled midfield...

Seniors into the old league play-offs but unfortunately out of the championship, was a terrible auld match up in slaughtneil against the dawson... but the less said about it the better.

Was some match at the club on Sunday there... cant mind when there was that many people inside St Oliver Plunkett Park... big letters and his pose had the place lookin well and I'm sure there was quite a few quid lifted too...

Was wild hard on Lavey the 2 late shamrocks goals to win by a point, but sure that's the way it goes, and was a great game for the neutrals, so maybe the lough will be remember for being the hosts for the game of the year for a few years to come, rather than just the venue where Ballinderry and Newbridge whaled the crap out of each other in 1987 in what was supposedly a proper wee row... as far as i mind most the stewards from the lough on the day went home after they had been boxin for about 10 minutes, and left them to it... those were the days!!

Some runnin

Was great to see so many out last night running around the 'lough. Pity some of the footballers couldn'd do as much running during a match... but sure to each their own.

Apart from the fella who won it, who flew round the 6 miles in just over half an hour, there were some outstanding local runners. Although John 'Marathon' Boy McCloy failed to live up to his billing as the fastest man in the parish, he still completed the 6 Mile race in a decent time when some bluffers who I wont mention (Mr Downey, Mr McCann, Maccers) decided half way round to pull out and finish with just 3 miles!! Shameful!! Indeed if Maccers had decided to just do the 3 Miles at the start he would have beaten mars into second for the fun run... ah well... always next year.

Another miraculous sight was Dolph making an unexpected appearance... somehow returning from long term injury to plod round the roads and end up 5th or so in the fun run... all that laying around being 'injured' must have helped greatly!
John Boy finishes strong infront of his adoring fans...!
Lofty leaves others in his wake to finish in an impressive time... for lofty..

John Boy and Barney think of dropping into McCanns for an ice cream as they get to end of the Ballymacombs Rd
Seamy powers up the hill at Clady corner; deciding not to win it after his pre-race prediction of sweeping everyone aside on the path to victory... giving others a chance

Some players... like the one above decided to not kid themselves into thinking they could run it, so took the easy option of walking!

Dolph and Heart of Braveness out for a wee dander trying to avoid the gate on the way out.

The bluffers are all smiles going out the gate, including 'The Hutch' back on his feet after last year's leg break and former senior and oftened crocked player Toffee... not so many smiles on the way back in though...

Just a wee update

Been a while... so thought i'd just do a wee update. Seems things are going rightly for the seniors and reserves... 7 from 7 for both and wee one-sided win there on Sunday against them Drum boys... pity they didnt have a full strength team... didnt do anyone any good that carry on.

Big test this Sunday against moneymore... should tell us a bit more of where we are at and leave someone on top outright...

Well done to the wee under 14s... did the club proud and won the 7 a side blitz in owenbeg on Tuesday night. Good job lads!! Maybe be representing the club in an All-Irleand 7s final some time in the future!

Not a bad start

Good old win for the Seniors against Claudy yesterday... nice to get a rare opening day victory! Hopefully things can continue as well for the rest of the year. The reserves had an even handier win; for a while I thought it was an under 8 match and we were going to have more goals than points at the end... was a close thing! Was another first as well on Sunday... the first time I've seen 17 subs for a Reserve game...! Sub bench couldnt even take everyone!

Nice wee trip to the city on Easter Sunday for the next match... should be fun!
