Awards my @r$e

What the hell happened them bleedin club awards... didn't get a bloody thing! Obviously people are jealous of my mad skills... hardly on. I doubt there must have been some amount of cheating goin on... maybe some voting early and often... where's the fun in that.

I mean come on... Dolph winning Reserve and Snowy most improved... ye lads are really takin the piss... Dolph strapped up like a christmas present for half the year and snowy crazier than beaver at a ballymaguigan match.

I suppose thon mars boyo maybe deserved senior player of the year, but overall club player was pushing it I thought.



Not sure about Stefan flukin the minor award... but Big Man hardly deserved the club man of the year... I mean all he does is lay in teagues drinking the head off himself and singing about balamory.. waster!

Player of the year awards

I see the club site is holding the annual popularity contest for the different player of the year awards... I dont understand why I dont win every category... as I'm obviously best at everything... bar Under 14, which John Boy is a sure winner for... Must go and vote for a few boys here... make sure none of the numptys win anything... I mean John Og and Dolph shouldnt be near any of them awards... unless it's for lack of looks... then they would be right up there...

Horse Play - some craic

Some craic at the old night at the races on Saturday night. Along with the interesting names for horses and jockeys, there was some serious betting done... and some lucky winners...

The best craic was seeing the bronco led consortium go head to head with 'I Hate corner back' and 'Laughin boy' and their rival group in a bidding war for the last horse on sale on the evening 'The Lough Lad'... bronco, or should that be 'Monday Club' and his backers, 'Smirnoff', 'Drumsurn Athlete', 'I Love Doc', 'Tooth Kind', 'No Leg to Stand On', 'Tough But Sweet' and 'Keep on Running' among others, won with a bid of £210... fair play to them... pity the horse was a bit of a donkey and only just about finished and was left in the wake of the all conquering Innisrusher... owned by the McPeake Mafia family, headed by Stephen. Fair play to Stevie for giving half the winnings back... there's something decent in them McPeake's after all!! ... though it wasn't easy listening to 'Silver top' when his horse won a race... lucky wee bollix!

All over....

Well... now there are no more games to play, dont think the blog can be unlucky... who knows, but season over now after that hard fought draw up in Drumsurn. Been a long auld season, and couple of years... time to put the feet up and take her handy for a few months...maybe try and avoid putting a belly on over the winter like some well known players... maybe one who recently got the ball and chain attached.. i'll say no more... but it's about time he got engaged, dont think the missus could take much more of the waiting!!

Anyway, take her handy, and I'll be back later in the year for the odd update...

Alrighty then... the old horsies on Saturday week, should be some craic... will have to get a word in on the naming of the jockies and horses... there's some boys out there need some serious slagging... should be a good night's craic with a bit boogying after the gee gees.... must dust off the old wallet and place a few wagers... wouldnt bet on any of them donkeys owned by some of the players... likely fall down after the first few.... fences that is...

Well done to berg, mars and Bradley on being named on the old intermediate team of the year... well deserved.. dunno if berg deserved player of the year though... think john boy should have got it... very dissapointed there... Good achievement for the lads anyway, even if it is from a north derry paper...

Not nice!

I know I said I would be takin a wee break from the old bloggin... but just had to come on and wish big eyes a speedy recovery from his broken ankle. Nasty fall and twist... not nice. Hopefully there are no complications and he wont take too long to recover and be out injuring himself against goalies and the like again soon!

just didnt show up on the day. Ah well... just need to get the heads right for the league, and make sure we stay up.

Might take a break from this old bloggin life... might have been unlucky... we've lost an all-ireland and derry final since I started... balls to that!

Last training session before the big game last night, team named, all set... only thing left to do is head to Celtic Park, beat the 'guigan, take the trophy home... and party! It's gonna happen just like that... you better believe it!

73 Hours and a wheena minutes to go...

Things building nicely now... 1 training session down for the week, 1 more to go.... I will obviously be expecting to be named in the team, preferably as the playmaker with no marking responsibilities... though for some reason I think the management have other ideas... well... sure.. what do they know! Even your man in the Derry post hasnt me in the likely line up... joke... why cant others see my sublime skills... John Boy, big Antonthy and Oggy know what I mean, just not appreciated!

Anyway... enough about me... 3 full days, an hour and 13 minutes or so to go to throw in... will be a good battle, but the cups coming back to Greenlough... and you better believe it!

Alright then... game won, 2 league points, superb... hopefully no knocks or injuries... full steam ahead to the final now... time to put the old title on the line and bring her back to the lough!!!... and i dont mean lough neagh!!!

Down to business

Ok, the fun of the All-Ireland 7s is over.... time for the real deal again.

Desertmartin in the big league game on Sunday, the championship final will have to wait, even if the parish is gettin geared up with bunting, flags and the Greenlough 'Mean Machine' on display outside the club - some bit of work lads... we'll have to get an old pic up here soon - credit to snowy and beaver for the body work, and the berg for the art!!

No doubt about it, 2 league points is all that matters at this stage.

With all remaining league games away, and trips up into the wilds of craigbane, drumsurn and slaughtmanus ahead, we have to win the game closest to home and keep it going. All this chat about Greenlough being the inform team will count for feck all if we dont win at least another 2 or 3 league games and it starts on Sunday...

Trainin the other night was a killer as them boys who dandered about on Saturday got to have a rest, come on wee man, not like they were playin in an All-Ireland or the like.... thought i was gonna boke the old ringer up at one stage, that mg driving eejit was trying to kill me with all that running, and beating of heads... but sure if it means we are ready for the week ahead it will be worth it... will just have to take one less spud before trainin the night, otherwise the auld dinner will be fertilising jimmy's nicely cut field again.

All-Ireland Champions... almost!

Bloody dodgy referee!!! Would have had an auld All-Ireland title back at the club this morning if it wasnt for a completely biased wee jobsworth... rippin. Was hard enough to take losing an all-ireland final, but to lose like that was just a kick in the balls.
A brilliant achievement for the lads, dunno how they managed to survive so much football in one day, a few sore bodies for a day or too no doubt.

Some great football played, and no doubt the best team there on the day.

The support wasnt bad either, even if some of the fellas didnt really come dressed like the rest of us and thought our new team colours were blue!

Well down to Mars on winning player of the tournament, or the energiser bunny as some of the ratoath crowd kept calling him. The lad should take it easy, all that running makes the rest of us look bad!
Old captain for the day didnt do too bad either... top scorer on the field, and had a lady admirer from the first game who wanted to know who he was and why she had never heard of him! Obviously his reputation didnt stretch to Meath!

All in all a great day's craic, just a pity some referees just ignore the rules at times and decide to be bias.

We know we deserved it and that's all that matters... now for the Derry Championship again... no chance we're losing any more finals this year!

Oh yeah!

So job done on Saturday... another final... happy days!

All-Ireland 7s this weekend, should be good craic. The managers better have me on the 10 man panel... they know my searing speed and brilliant skills would be just perfect... dunno about all that running though... could be wrecked after 5 minutes... will have to wait and see, but i'm sure they'll do the decent thing... surely!

Like waiting for a bus...

... you wait years for one to come along and then two arrive after each other!!

Thank jaysus we didn't have to wait another 32 years to get to another final.. time to make her 2 in a row!

Brilliant win today, but frig me sir, talk about giving a man near heart failure! Started off fairly slow even if we did score first, Slaughtmanus took the lead and were pushin on a bit until chairman melled their midfielder (with a perfectly fair shoulder!!! - dubious yellow card I'd say) and we woke up a bit... dont think the poor fella has recovered yet.

Unreal pass from Berg to Comesy for the goal, 'keeper had no chance and had to pick her out of the onion bag. Fell asleep again for the rest of the half and were lucky to be leadin at the whistle.

Flying again at the start of the second half, berg causing them all sorts of problems, the wee man could only be stopped when he was dragged down or fouled. Didnt know what thon ejit McCallion was at when he hoofed the ball 50 yards across the field, but comesy was waiting for it and lobbed her into berg, only one winner in that contest, and it was the defender or the 'keeper... yeoooooooo!

A couple of points from Lenny, Seamy and Comesy and we were 5 up, all sorted! NO of course not!

Damn but we make things hard for ourselves... but the 'manus were even worse. They came back at us rightly, but dodgy, maximus and bradley were holding them at bay along with super subs oggy, kearney and old big eyes himself! Mcglinchey and chairman havin to have a wee sit down after their standing about for three quarters of an hour!


They had 4 or 5 shots in the last 10 minutes, at least one should have went over, but by luck and hard work, the closest the came was the post, and after what seemed like hours of injury time the final whistle eventually blew...!! Roll on October 3rd!!! Back in the final again! YEOOOOWW!

Back down the road in the vengabus (stoppin for some liquid refreshments, baps and a copy of Nuts - you know who you are - shame on you!!) and into the club for some Party time! 'You better believe it!!' as the big man would say!

3rd Time Lucky???

Big game tomorrow against them North Derry boyos who beat us twice this year already. Good auld hard session at training there last night. Lookin forward to her now, just worried that wee coach of ours has hit his midlife crisis with his fancy sports car, says its to get him around when the missus has the other motor... dubious!

Decided its time to set up an auld blog so I can let ye all know what's really goin on about the mighty 'lough and the club from the point of view of the club's greatest ever player!
